Select Myrtle Beach area hotels, merchants and attractions are offering discounts throughout spring for travellers with a valid Canadian passport. Ranging from 25 to as much as 55 per cent, the discounts are designed to help Canadians "make up" the difference in the Canadian exchange rate.
The Can-Am Days Deals, available through April 30, also includes the South Carolina hot spot’s popular Canadian-American Days Festival, which has been attracting Canadians for 57 years. This year the event takes place March 10-18, coinciding with March Break in Ontario.
Special discounts are available for valid dates listed online at, which also provides festival details and other offers.
"We have seen a growing number of Canadian visitors to the Myrtle Beach area, especially in the past decade," says Julie Ellis, public relations and communications manager for the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce/CVB. "The late winter and early spring seasons offer mild weather, more affordable accommodations and more elbow room at area attractions. The special promotions for our Canadian neighbours provide even more incentive by bridging the gap in the exchange rate."
For travellers who prefer to fly rather than drive, non-stop flights from Toronto are available on Porter Airlines and WestJet. Spirit Airlines offers non-stop flights from Niagara Falls and Plattsburgh, N.Y. and Detroit.
