1. What can wedding couples expect from a Melia or a Paradisus wedding?

By choosing Melia Hotels International in Cuba, couples are choosing properties that have proven wedding expertise. All weddings include on-site coordinators who each have extensive wedding planning experience and multiple facilities and gazebos so your clients can create the wedding of their dreams. Eighteen of our 27 Cuba hotels are a part of our Wedding Collection. Over the years, our hotels have developed very affordable wedding packages, including one of the most comprehensive Free Wedding offerings with a minimum number of guests. Another major benefit of booking a wedding with Melia Cuba is that you'll be working with a wedding specialist based in Canada who offers planning assistance to all travel agents and who liaises with the coordinator in Cuba on your behalf.

2. What characteristics identify the ideal Melia Cuba/Paradisus wedding client?

With our 27 hotels located in 8 different regions in Cuba as well as our various brands of hotels ranging from luxury resorts to more casual hotels, we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to any kind of request that we may receive from our clients. We believe all clients interested in a Melia Cuba Wedding are ideal!

3. What questions will be most helpful in narrowing down the right property for a wedding couple?

Each hotel has different options when it comes to ceremony and dinner locations and decorations. It is important for the travel agent to ask the following questions to be able to suggest the best property to their clients: Where do they dream of doing their wedding ceremony (on the beach, under a beautiful white gazebo, on a catamaran)? Where would they like to have their wedding dinner (in a restaurant, on the beach, in a reception hall, under a gazebo on stilts over the ocean)? How big is the group? Will there be any children amongst the guests? What kind of room categories will they need for the group (family suites, connecting rooms, luxury rooms)? Are they looking to upgrade to a higher room category (The Level or Royal Service)? Are they planning on having a private wedding reception with open bar and a DJ? These are all questions that travel agents should ask to help them narrow down the options and ultimately find the best hotel for their clients' dream wedding.

4. What recommendations do you have on how to position Melia Cuba/Paradisus to prospective wedding clients?

Clients should know that Melia Cuba is a hotel chain that specializes in destination weddings. It was also the very first hotel chain in Cuba to plan and organize weddings. We have developed a wonderful wedding program and very affordable wedding packages over the years and we continue to work to refine our offerings. Our brides and grooms can take advantage of our Free Wedding package which will include the legal fees if they travel with a minimum number of guests. The inclusions of our wedding packages, costs and conditions are available online at ca.weddingcubachannel.com.

5. What surprises guests about having their wedding at a Melia Cuba or Paradisus resort?

We've had several travel agents and clients say that our Free Wedding package is absolutely fabulous and offers above and beyond what other hotel chains offer. They also appreciate the fact that we offer a complimentary bilingual wedding planning assistance based here in Canada. Some of our resorts, such as the Melia Las Dunas and the Melia Varadero, often offer a complimentary private wedding dinner to their wedding groups, which has a value of 35 CUC per person. This is usually something that we announce to our couples closer to their departure as a special surprise!

6. Are there any properties geared toward more specific requests?

For brides and grooms who are looking to have a different and unique wedding, we have select properties that offer special options. For example, at the Melia Marina Varadero, brides and grooms can have a beautiful wedding ceremony on board a catamaran. Your clients want an unforgettable wedding? How about saying their I do's under the water at the Melia Cayo Guillermo. They want to have a special wedding dinner? Why not organize a special dinner on the beach at our Paradisus Resorts or a romantic dinner on the gazebo over the ocean at the Melia Buenavista? Each hotel has its own wedding options and our Canadian wedding specialist can help you decide on the right property for your clients.

Travel agents will be pleased to know that wedding planning with Melia is done with a dedicated point person based in Canada, so there is no need to contact the hotels directly. Melia says this is one of its biggest assets when it comes to destination weddings, as no other chains offer it. E-mail weddings@meliacuba.ca.
