New amenities include self-guided, GPS-enabled hiking trails
Located just four miles downriver from Dunton Hot Springs, the seasonal Dunton River Camp at Cresto Ranch will reopen for its second season on June 1, 2014. Adding to its existing list of outdoor activities, Dunton River Camp will now also feature self-guided, GPS-enabled hikes in the San Juan Mountains sub-range of the Colorado Rockies.
Dunton River Camp at Cresto Ranch is comprised of eight luxurious 640-square-foot canvas tents on elevated platforms, located in an alpine clearing in the Colorado Rockies. Each tent features a gas heating stove, spacious en-suite bathroom and private lounging porch. At the heart of the intimate resort is the main lodge - a restored 19th-century farmhouse featuring a dining room, guest salon and wraparound deck, perched just 20 feet from the Dolores River, with spectacular views of the San Juan Mountains.
Guests of Dunton River Camp at Cresto Ranch have access to more than 1,600 acres of wilderness area in the San Juan Mountains, ideal for stargazing, exploring, picnicking, hiking, nature walks and lawn games. Guests of Dunton River Camp at Cresto Ranch also have complimentary access to Dunton Hot Springs' Bath House, outdoor hot springs and saloon restaurant.
Using local and regional ingredients, the chefs at The Farmhouse create a unique daily menu, complementing award-winning wines from Sutcliffe Vineyards, which are beautifully crafted just 30 miles away.
With four of the tents overlooking the Dolores River and four with amazing mountain views, the main activities at Dunton River Camp include fly fishing on a private, prime section of the Dolores River and riding the local horses through nearby mountain meadows, valleys and trails. Additionally, each guest at Dunton River Camp at Cresto Ranch has access to complimentary mountain bikes included with each tent.
Dunton River Camp at Cresto Ranch will be open from late spring to early fall (June 1st to October 31st); rates start at $1,400 per night (double occupancy) and include all meals and beverages. Guests booking before April 30, 2014 can take advantage of an early booking rate of $1,100 per night.
