Canada remains # 1 for international visitors
Canadians continue to be in love Florida! Canada, as the number one international market for 2013, saw a 4.1% increase over 2012 in Canadian visitors to the Sunshine State, recording three years of record-breaking visitation.
Preliminary figures indicate 3,700,000 Canadians visited Florida in 2013, up from 3,600,000 in 2012. Florida is home to 825 miles of award-winning beaches, a laid-back atmosphere, and endless sunshine. No wonder Canadian visitors feel the ‘Sunshine State’ is a home away from home.
“We are incredibly encouraged to see domestic, Canadian and overseas visitor numbers all peaking together in 2013, and look forward to continuing to build on this momentum in 2014 to make Florida the No. 1 travel destination in the world,” said Will Seccombe, President and CEO of VISIT FLORIDA®.
Only a short plane ride away, it’s easy to escape this year’s winter chill and head for Florida’s unbeatable tropical climate. In 2013 about 2,016,000 Canadians flew to various Floridian gateways, and another 1,689,000 drove to Florida.
Canadians remain steadfast in their loyalty to Florida, often visiting several times within the same year, and now it’s multiple generations who frequent the state.
