Two hundred years ago, we fought. Today we occasionally bicker.
“We’’ are Canada and the U.S., whose historic ties are one reason why, every March, the Myrtle Beach area rolls out the red carpet to welcome both Canadian and American visitors. The event is Canadian American Days. From March 12 to 20, 2011, it celebrates its 50th anniversary with a week of fun events, giveaways, discounts and concerts all along the Myrtle Beach area.
“Can-Am Days celebrate our snowbird visitors who escape the cold and snow for the moderate climate and wealth of attractions of the Myrtle Beach area,” says Brad Dean, MBACC/CVB president and CEO. “Many of these visitors have been travelling to our destination for decades and we strive to create new memories for each generation through our festivals.”

Highlights from the 2010 festival include the RBC Battle At The Beach golf tournament, where the USA team, led by Coastal Carolina University Head Coach David Bennett won the tournament, but the Canadian team, led by Hockey Hall Of Famer Yvan Cournoyer, won all the individual prizes (closest to the pin, long drive and low score by a foursome); the RBC Bank Canadian American Days Celebration Expo; and the RBC Bank Military Concerts.
The festival draws as many as 100,000 Canadian visitors each year and is regarded as the first international festival organized in South Carolina.
